Green Certificates
HERON, in association with G.E.K. TERNA, provides Guarantees of Origin of Electricity from Renewable Sources to corporate customers.
Green Certificates are provided by HERON to its corporate customers.
Guarantees of Origin of electricity from renewable energy sources (RES), commonly known as “Green Certificates” are provided by HERON to any interested corporate customer. In particular, during the last year, HERON, in association with G.E.K. TERNA provided Guarantees of Origin to nine (9) corporate customers. These customers include PAPASTRATOS και UNILEVER-KNORR, who joined the service in late 2016. Similarly, NESTLE HELLAS S.A. and TASTY FOODS acquired their own Green Certificates during the early part of 2017.
Green Certificates are issued by the Operator of Electricity Market (LAGIE), pursuant to Directives 2003/54 / EC and 2009/72 / EC as well as national legislation, in order to certify that a specific amount of electricity is produced from RES. Electricity suppliers may obtain Green Certificates from RES electricity producers and transfer them to the companies and industries they represent. Therefore, Guarantees of Origin are a proof that a certain amount of electricity consumed by a company or industry over a period of time corresponds to an equal amount of energy produced from RES.
Through Green Certificates, both the HERON Group and the associated companies and industries are actively contributing to the development of RES in the country. In this way, they profess that reducing their energy footprint and thus protecting the environment constitute an essential pillar of their development policy.
